ELIGIBILITY & CATEGORIES
The Jack & Jill Competition is open to eligible dancers registered for LA LUZ Dance Festival 2027.
AMATEUR CATEGORY
Designed for social dancers who do not regularly teach or perform bachata professionally.
• Participants must not be active professional bachata instructors or professional performers.
• Dancers with previous Pro/Advanced competition experience or Amateur category victories may be required to enter the Professional category.
• The organization reserves the right to review registrations and reassign participants to the appropriate category.
PRO CATEGORY
Open to experienced dancers, instructors, performers and advanced-level competitors.
• Professional instructors and performers are eligible.
• Dancers with previous professional competition experience may participate.
• Competitors register individually as Leaders or Followers.
Participants may be asked to provide information about their dance experience to ensure fair category placement.
No. You can attend on your own, with a partner or with friends. Pairing and partner rotation during workshops are guided by the instructor. Partner rotation is optional, and an equal number of partners cannot be guaranteed in every class.
FORMAT & JUDGING
Jack & Jill is an improvised partner-dance competition designed to highlight musicality, connection and social dancing skills.
Competition Format
• Participants register individually as a Leader or Follower.
• Partners are assigned randomly during the competition.
• Partners may rotate between rounds.
• No prepared choreography or prearranged partnerships are allowed.
• Qualifying rounds and finals will be organized according to the number of registered competitors.
Judging Criteria
Competitors will be evaluated based on:
• Musicality and rhythm
• Partner connection and communication
• Technique and dance fundamentals
• Creativity and improvisation
• Adaptability and overall performance
The judging panel’s decisions are final.
FEES & FULL PASS REQUIREMENTS
Competition Registration Fees
• Amateur Category: €25 per person
• Pro Category: €30 per person
Full Festival Pass Requirements
• A valid LA LUZ 2027 Full Festival Pass is mandatory for all competitors.
• Competition registration fees are separate from the Full Festival Pass price.
• Full Festival Passes purchased before competition registration are accepted.
• Party Passes and single-day tickets are not valid for competition participation.
• Registration is individual. No dance partner is required.
• Accommodation at the official festival hotel is not mandatory.
Competition places may be limited according to the number of available Leader and Follower registrations.

Venue: Hilton Istanbul Kozyatagi, Istanbul, Türkiye
Planned competition days:
• Amateur Jack & Jill: Friday, 29 January 2027
• Pro Jack & Jill: Sunday, 31 January 2027
Exact check-in times, qualifying rounds, semifinals and finals will be published in the official competition schedule.
Participants are required to complete competition check-in at least 30 minutes before their scheduled round.
The organization reserves the right to adjust the competition schedule when necessary.
Entry fees, detailed eligibility and the exact competition date will be announced soon.
